Recurrent Hernia Surgery
After Hernia Surgery 95% percent of our patients leave home within two hours following their hernia repair.

Hernia Surgery options include new techniques and materials that can make surgery less invasive and recovery faster. |
|
Approximately 600,000 Hernia Repair Operations are performed annually in the United States. Many are performed by the conventional "open" method. Some hernia repairs are performed using a small telescope known as a laparoscope. Hernias can happen to anyone, regardless of sex or age
Hernias can only
be repaired by a surgical procedure. There are a variety of surgical
procedures available, depending on the type of hernia involved. Careful diagnosis is essential. It’s important to distinguish between Groin Strain, a Torn Muscle or a HERNIA, because the treatment options for each vary greatly. |
|
The breakdown of a hernia operation, which makes it more complex, is named as recurrent hernia. To make the matter worse the chances of success diminishes after each successive operation. It can occur at anytime in a patient’s lifetime. This may occur because of infection in the wound or due to improper healing of the wound. Inadequate repair during the first time may also lead to the recurrence of the problem. Doing strenuous exercises after the operation leads to the bursting of tissues, which results in the opening of wound. |

|
|
Recurrent hernia includes almost all types of hernia:
- Abdominal hernias
- Diaphragmatic hernias
- Pelvic hernias
- Intracranial hernias
- Hernias of the nucleus pulposus

The patient suffers the same problems after few days of treatment. He starts feeling inflammation and pain and much obstruction in the infected areas. |

Recurrent hernia reduces the chance of the patient to get rid of the hernia. It produces many complexities, which reduces the success rate. It can lead to loss of a testicle of the patient because of the obstruction in the blood supply. This occurs because of the scars in the tissues responsible for the blood supply to the testicles. Multiple recurrent hernias even lead to death because of the higher failure rate. It makes the treatment much complex and reduces its simplicity to make the matter more worse. |

PRECAUTIONS AND TREATMENT |
|
|
Doctors now know that the standard way of mending the hernia is not the productive way. There are other ways of surgery like keyhole surgery and making a new incision above the old scar, so that it can be treated from inside. In this case rather than pulling the tissues together a mess of artificial fabric is patched over the opening. It is operated with such a precision that the whole area around the abdominal wall is reinforced without involving the previous opening. |

Do hernias get better? |
|
A hernia will not repair itself and there are no treatments involving medication. Typically a
hernia worsens over time until surgery becomes the only option for repair. However, not all
hernias require immediate surgery and in some cases, may not require surgery at all. |
|
|
|
How do you fix a hernia? |

can only be repaired by a surgical procedure. There are a variety of

How do hernia conditions vary? |
|
Inguinal hernias or hernias of the groin are the most common type of hernia. Typically these
hernias develop in adults, generally in men, although they do occur in women as well. The
inguinal hernia occurs when there is a weakness, tear or opening in the muscle wall of the
groin or lower abdomen. Surgical procedures to correct inguinal hernias is done in our center
on an outpatient basis. |

|
When can I resume sexual activity? |
|
Men or women can resume sexual activity when they feel comfortable and free of pain. Age
can effect the overall healing time. Younger men and women seem to experience recovery
faster then older men. |

The Conventional Method. In this case, an incision is made over the site of the hernia. The protruding tissue is returned to the abdominal cavity, and the sac that has formed is removed. The surgeon repairs the
hole or weakness in the abdominal wall by sewing
strong surrounding muscle over the defect. This is the
most common method of hernia repair.
Tension-free Mesh Technique. For this technique, an
incision is made at the site of the hernia and a piece of
mesh is inserted to cover the area of the abdominal wall
defect without sewing together the surrounding
muscles. Recovery is swift, and the likelihood of the
hernia recurring is small. The mesh is safe and
generally well-accepted by the body’s natural tissues.
The Laparoscopic Method. A laparoscope is a long
metal tube with a fiberoptic light source and a telescopic
eyepiece, which is connected to a TV monitor.
The scope is inserted into the abdominal cavity through
a small incision and is used to view the hernia in the
abdominal wall while the surgeon repairs the hernia
through additional tubes that are inserted into the
abdomen through separate incisions. |
